Honestly, I had a blast doing the draft. It added some spice to a typical weekday day. Anyways, nobody cares about my feelings, you all just read this because I have extra credibility now that Ralph Barbieri says hi to me in the bathroom. Onto the draft analysis:
Harper's 20 HR Hymen (Evan): Go Home Zito is back...with the first pick overall. I was going to implement a season move limit, but it would feel like I'm picking on this guy.
Best pick: Cory Luebke. Last time I checked, the beach out in RCF is still in Ventura County and this guy has decent stuff. That WHIP bro...pretty damn good.
Biggest reach: Adam Dunn. He was just soooooo bad last year. It's probably not a reach, more like a low risk, low reward pick.
Worst pick: Michael Pineda. Sophomore slump. Book it. And now he pitches in that little league park.
Nyjer Please! (John): In honor of that Bay Area dbag who dropped FOUR fuck yeah's on national television. We got it Nyjer. You are/were excited.
Best pick: Arad. He had the Kobe platelets knee surgery and should have a good year. Dee Gordon is also Elvis Andrus lite.
Biggest reach: Goldschimidtty. He could be good, but apparently his contact rate was terrible and he magically hit .260 something last year. He'll strike out 200+ times and hit .230 something. The good news is average is only one category.
Worst pick: Trevor Cahill. He's a great pitcher when his sinker sinks. Apparently, it's not sinking and therefore, he is not a great pitcher.
The Honey Badger (Robby Grag): Mini G is here to offer everyone terrible trades. Give the kid a break, he was nurtured into a Red Sox fan. What? He wasn't?
Best pick: Cliff Lee/Cole Hamels. Lee is my realistic pick to win the NL CY Young and Cole Hamels is showcasing his talent to Magic Johnson. They are both determined to have big years.
Biggest reach: Melky Cabrera. A Giants position player other than Posey and Pablo? In fantasy baseball? No way!
Worst pick: Matt Capps. He won't keep the job.
Bobby Me (Brothers): Thanks to the CEO of Circlebid for drafting for Brothers.
Best pick: Clayton Kershaw. I wanted him. Now I want the Giants to kidnap him.
Biggest reach: Brian Wilson. The beard's as jet black as ever. The velocity isn't.
Worst pick: Nick Markakis. Tom thought he fell off the face of fantasy baseball. I think he's correct.
Vogey-free Round (Me): I actually hate my draft. The only good thing I did pre-draft was changing the time per selection from 90 seconds to 60. It made for some fun intensity.
Best pick: Anibal Sanchez. No one pronounces this guy's name better than Jon Miller.
Biggest reach: Howie Kendrick. 7th round for this guy? Who does that?
Worst pick: Andrew Bailey. He's out til late July. Fuck.
Manny's Back(ne) (Doug): The upset here happened before the draft. Shocker that his team name had nothing to do with Bobby V. Instead he's trying to zing a guy that's playing in Oakland. Isn't that bad enough?
Best pick: Yovani Gallardo. I swear it is...despite his current ERA of over 14. He also had an ERA of over 6 in April last year.
Biggest reach: None, not because he had an awesome draft, but because I mention two guys below.
Worst pick: Michael Bourn/Ichiro: I understand one or the other but both? Seems redundant to have no power, bunch of speed dudes. Where is the power going to come from? (Hint: he thinks Cody Ross is going to hit 25 bombs.) Or maybe Ichiro hits 15 this year in the 3 hole. Something to keep a tab on this year.
WSChamps1908 (Tom): Lazy ahole is too busy studying the human body to think of a new team name. Where's your priorities? Damn you and your stupid Cubbies. The new curse is the "Curse of T-Mak-never-changing-his-fantasy-baseball-team-name". I guess I'm taking it a step too far, but this hurts just as bad as the Warriors not amnestying the Big Russian.
Best pick: Eric Hosmer. I guess he's going to tear it up this year. Everyone's been saying it, but I have no idea. Who watches KC Royals baseball?
Biggest reach: It's not a biggest reach analysis, but another good pick blurb. I like the Daniel Hudson pick. Maybe it's because I only watch him pitch against the Giants, so it's not a good gauge, but his stuff is nasty.
Biggest reach: I lied. There is one. The 8th round seems a little high for Stubbs.
Worst pick: Ian Desmond. Better start watching for Stephen Drew rehab updates.
Watch Yo Bumgarner (Kai): Winner of the best team name. Just imagine McLovin saying this, then he ensues to empty a clip on a burning cop car. I dunno. I think it's funny.
Best pick: Cespedesanity!
Biggest reach: Ubaldo Jimenez. He was very bad last year. He loses velocity and command if he's mechanically screwed up. And mechanics are so complex that he loses it pretty easily.
Worst pick: Ryan Howard. It's not a bad stash, except he's on Harper's DL.
To the Lost (A Kelley): Sources tell me Vogey was negotiating for his second round pick providing Longoria was still available. Results tell everyone Vogey didn't have to offer his 2nd and 4th rounders for Longoria because he magically fell to him with the 16th overall selection. But in other news, he works for the Padres, so get the inside scoop on Yonder Alonso from him.
Best pick: Ellsbury/Upton. Pretty dirty outfield combo right there.
Biggest reach: Paul Konerko. He's turning 36 in a few weeks. The decline has to come at some point, ya?
Worst pick: Ricky Weeks. Not him...but the lack of a backup 2b makes this bad.
BustHerPosey (Chandler): The defending champion is rewarded with the last pick. Can he become the David Beckham of fantasy baseball? He found his Posh Spice and now needs to keep his game.
Best pick: Lincecum. Only if he trims his hair. It's way too long right now.
Biggest reach: Aramis Ramirez. How did he hit .306 last year? I think he'll hit closer to .250 like he did in '10.
Worst pick: Nothing that really pops as bad. The Hardy/Peralta combo at SS is meh (but still better than Erik freakin Aybar).
There you have it. I gotta get back to listening to the Giants pregame show. And remember, Together We're Giant.

They are who they thought they were
First of all, I was going to say congrats to the semi-finalists, but before that... SCREW YOU TERRY COLLINS FOR PH'ING FOR JASON BAY. ALL I NEEDED (i think) WAS A MOTHER EFFING BASE KNOCK FROM JASON EFFING BAY.
My season's over, but Shin-Soo Choo's is not. We have two quality match-ups between (Thank you for) Go(-ing) Home Zito (and enjoy cooking those omelets) and WSChamps1908 AND Manny (beating) Mommy (Doug's creation, not mine) and BustHerPosey. How close were the play-in match-ups? Good Wood and Raging Right Now needed one HR from Starlin Castro and one (maybe two) more hits from Jason Bay, respectively to move on. Plus, if Castro went yard, ESPN wouldn't have lost their minds about the Sunday Night Baseball game going way too long and delaying Boomer's rumblin-stumblin-bumblin NFL highlights.
If the week ended today, TYFG-ingHZ and Manny would advance to the championship. WSChamps needs a whole lot of pitching help and BustHerPosey needs runs, RBIs, wins, and saves. Unlike in years prior when the championship match-up was 14 days, this year's championship will be decided in 10 days. Just be aware (to whoever advances) that you will only get 7 moves TOTAL (not 7 per week). You're effin welcome.
I'll do a quick revisit of my draft analysis. Not gonna boast, but I was almost spot on.
Good Wood- Called his draft good (if not great) and a playoff bound team. He made the playoffs. My best pick (Jered Weaver) was pretty much lights out all year long. I was flat out wrong on @JoeyBats19. He'll be a 1st round pick next year for sure.
BustHerPosey- My dubbing of his best pick (Matt Kemp) will finish in the top 2 of NL MVP voting. It took a while, but Jaime Garcia hit his sophomore slump wall (4.60 ERA, 1.57 WHIP Post-AS Break). Phil Hughes was awful.
WSChamps1908-Brian Roberts has been on the DL basically all year. Ian Desmond was dropped (JJ Hardy was a great pick-up by the way). Gio Gonzalez was the A's lone all-star selection.
Repeat-Well the Giants are not going to Repeat. Lester lowered his ERA for the 3rd straight season.
GoHomeZito- Pablo missed a month due to a hamate bone fracture, but he's been great. I didn't really go out on a limb w/ GHZ's draft, but he made moves. A lot of them.
Manny-I called his draft the best. If he wins the league, small victory for me. Ichiro's BA is in the .270s. I swung and missed on his best pick (it's clearly Ellsbury, wait could be A-Gonz, wait could be Kinsler...oh that's why I called his draft the best).
Me- I reached for Chris Young. He sucked in the 2nd half. Also wrong on Tabata. I did guess correctly on Reynolds' HR total. If only he hit .250...
bombers28-I was wrong on Granderson and somewhat on Hanson. I correctly called Shields as a post-hype sleeper.
Justin's Juicers- I'll call the Upton-Braun deal a wash. Upton's been that good.
Bi-Winning-What happened to Heyward? And what happened to his team?
Huff's Thong Drawer- Maybe Pete knew something I didn't. He drafted a back-up catcher because he knew Posey would get hurt in May? McCutchen's been awful in the 2nd half. I'm going to postulate that he's been playing through an injury. Like everyone in September.
Nobody Cares-Best pick Kimbrel. Boo ya.

At the half way point...

Above would be the standings if our league was a rotisserie league. Suprisingly, no one is really getting the shaft. (Although Huff's Thong Drawer has a little beef. He's a game from the basement in the H2H standings and would be tied for 7th in this format.) Raging Right Now could also be higher in the standings, but bombers28 and NOBODY CARES!! are who we thought they were. One thing that makes me feel a little better is the slight discrepacy between AVG and OPS. The categories seem similar, but it's one way to get doubles and triples to affect fantasy baseball. In the grand scheme of things, #nobodycares.
Good Wood- Doesn't suprise me he's in first in R, HR, RBI, and OPS. Look at his lineup. Pujols, Bautista, Fielder, Castro, Morse, etc. It's going to be hard to beat him in the playoffs unless your squad goes off for 11-6-10-2 on Sunday.
Manny- Solid staff, high average guys, little power. Have power and need average? He's a potential trade partner.
Raging- Doesn't surprise me that my team is where it is. High power guys, no average (see Mark Reynolds). High K guys who are struggling (see Max Scherzer). Offensive stats might be a bit inflated because of the monster day my team had yesterday.
BustHerPosey- Solid, solid team. Great pitching depth. One thing to keep an eye on is a potential Heath Bell trade. Actually, he handcuffed that situation pretty well. Bell gets traded and becomes a setup guy, he and Mike Adams simply swap roles. Nice job.
Go Home Zito- Uhhhh, the Sanchy Award for being the enigma of the league. You look at his roster and nothing pops out at you. Cargo's been struggling, one consistent ace (Hamels), three pretty volatile closers, but somehow lands in the top 6. Like Johnny Sanchez, walks 6 in 5 innings, somehow leaves the game giving up 2-3 runs. If GHZ's season parallel's to Sanchy's, then he's due for a disappearing act and a DL stint.
Bombers28- Grandy's been awesome, but he needs to make a move. First to sixth in a matter of a few weeks. I see the current top 4 making the playoffs. GHZ and bombers, I'm not so sure.
Huff- The rotisserie standings don't tell the whole story. The structure of his team is not made for the H2H format. Too many hitters, not enough pitchers. He needs to make some moves, but there's talent on this team. Could play the role of spoiler.
Bi-Winning- My bold prediction is this team finishes in 5th. Right now, he's 6 games out, but the pitching staff is too strong and he needs to tread water until Crawford comes back.
WSChamps1908- Team's pretty weird. His catcher spot is empty. Adam Jones can carry a squad with the way he's swinging the bat, but nothing's materialized. May have to deal one of his studs for another stud or studs. Ubaldo's been killing his team. Outside chance to sneak into that 6th seed.
Justin's Juicers- Sneaky 3-1-2 in his last 6 weeks. I don't know how. Justin Upton's been a monster. Stubbs has fallen hard back down to earth.
Mark it Down- Needs pitching depth help. Has some pieces to move. I do recommend dropping Fuentes and benching Uggla. Yuck.
NOBODY CARES- :-(

Week 7: Moving week
After spending the beginning part of the season at the top, is Good Wood going to panic? His substantial lead is gone, and who woulda thunk he'd be in third place? Congrats to our new leader at the top: bombers28. Everyone was making fun of his reach for the Grandyman (including me), but how ya liking that 6th round pick now? Also, a good start to the year for Manny Being Mommy. He lost Manny, but Jed Lowrie and Alex Avila have been two great FA pickups for MBM. And so far, he's winning the Chacin/Gordon for Billingsley deal.
Not to toot my own horn, but if the season ended today, the commish would be in the playoffs. Big ups to Go Home Zito. He's staying alive in the playoff hunt after a horrendous draft. There's just no way GHZ would be .5 games out of the 6th spot with the way Car-Go has been struggling. Good pickups in Hosmer, Colon (wait....what?), and Ryan Roberts. We'll see how long he can ride those guys (yes!).
Side note for those thinking about sticking with their guys in season long slumps (like me w/ Reynolds). In two weeks, we'll be 60 games into the season. Just keep that in mind. I'm expecting a bunch of trades in this league. Make it happen.

Week 1
Hey everyone's undefeated! Oops. I guess our fantasy season didn't start until today because our draft was in the middle of week 1. My apologies. But the league did have some action. (Yes. You gotsta get up to get down.)
Doug changed his team name to "Manny Being Mommy". Appropriate, after all he did waste a 12th round pick on the fertility drug user. I can't decide if it's going to be a big deal or not. His replacement is Luke Scott and he also has Raul Ibanez. If he had better back ups, I wouldn't have an issue with it. On the other hand, the other OFs taken after him in the draft include Pagan, Tabata, Lind, Markakis, Adam Jones, etc. Not exactly world beaters.
Another interesting move involved Manny Being Mommy. He used the 7th waiver priority to claim Johan Santana. He's potentially out for the season, or more likely just the first half. Innnnnteresting. Also, potentially a good pickup in Zach Britton. Nevermind he has the same last name as my dream wife Connie Britton. He does pitch in the AL East, but oh can he induce the 4-6-3.
I'm calling out my own number. Two and a half times. Yeah, winning. I clearly had the best pickup of the week, snagging the new Angels closer Jordan Walden. He's nasty and he's a closer of a decent team. If Alex Gordon lives up to the post-hype, he could be a stud FA pickup. I also dropped and re-acquired Alexi Ogando. In two starts, he has an ERA of 0.00. Pretty good. (The Ogando pick up merits the half solid pickup.) Hopefully these pickups will offset the Evan Longoria oblique injury. It hurts considering his career BA in April is .328. Ouch.
The other interesting pickup is Chris Narveson (made by Matt's Bi-Winning). Jury's still out. He's a finesse pitcher, but he'll get his fair share of the Pirates and Astros.
Sean Burnett was added by Justin's Juicers. He's currently Washington's closer. He has talent (former 1st round pick by the Pirates in 2000), but righties do hit him decently (.258 career OppBA), and Drew Storen was the Nats' first round pick a couple years ago. Storen should reclaim the job sooner or later.
By the way, there's a closer still out there on the FA market. Hint: He's not good, but he's on a good team. Who will pick him up? It might be me...by the time I finish writing this blog.
In Giants news, how about those Friday and Saturday games? That's what I've been waiting for as a fan. Unbelievable banner raising and ring ceremonies. I honestly can't name THE one person I'm the most happy for. Mike Murphy? Bruce Bochy? Lincecum? Willie McCovey? Kruk and Kuip? Eli Whiteside? Kuip had the best line of the weekend. Something along the lines of: "Just want to make one thing clear. Tuxedos. Rings. But Mike (Krukow) and I are not here to renew our wedding vows."
Don't forget to set your lineups. In July, it's understandable. No excuses in April. Good luck to everyone.

Draft review
We saw a lot of things that just fit.
1. John (Good Wood) getting the first pick of the draft. That's the way he rolls.
2. The Boston kids taking Sawx in the first round (Doug's Rockstars from Mars with A-Gonz and Matt's BiWinning with Crawford).
3. Doug Chin taking 4 Asian guys (Ichiro, Daisuke, Saito, and Kuo)...and getting mad that Tom took Nishioka.
4. Mike Stern (NOBODY CARES) picking last. Suits your team name.
5. Buster Posey and Lincecum going higher than he should have (to Peter's Huff's Thong Drawer and Evan's Go Home Zito). Time will tell if reaching for Buster will pay off.
6. Chi-Town Tom taking Carlos Marmolade in the 6th round.
7. Mr. Hawaii (Justin) presumably sleeping through the draft.
On to Draft Analysis.
1. Good Wood (John)
Balanced team, immense power, very dangerous. Probably playoff bound.
Best Pick: Jered Weaver (7th round). WHIP king (1.07 in 2010) and potential ace with the 73rd pick? Steal.
Biggest Reach: Jose Bautista (3rd round). Doubt he will hit 50+ again. Worst case scenario I see is .250, 30 hrs. For the first pick in the third round? Yuck.
Question Mark: Enough pitching depth? That could be said for everyone though. Good, potentially great, draft.
2. BustHerPosey (Chandler)
Far and away best team name. Good pitching staff, solid lineup. Several injury risks (Mauer, Morneau, Carpenter, Kendrick)
Best Pick: Matt Kemp (3rd round). He was a 1st rounder a year ago. 3rd is probably appropriate this year, but could be in for a monster year. Love his talent, hate his attitude. Shed Rhianna in the offseason. What impact will that have?
Biggest Reach: Jaime Garcia (11th round)/Phil Hughes (13th round). Garcia could be in for a sophomore slump. Early reports have Hughes clocked at 86-87 mph, instead of 93. Will he fix his mechanics, Madison Bumgarner style?
Question Mark: Does Adrian Beltre have a year like last year (.320, 84-28-102) or one like 2009 (.265, 54-8-44)?
3. WSChamps1908 (Tom)
Poor kid. Fan of a cursed team. Go Bulls though. First six picks were among the best: Miggy, Felix, Choo, Ethier, Ubaldo. Does he have the depth?
Best Pick: Gio Gonzalez (11th round). How do you win h2h matchups? Quality arms. If he made more picks like this one, he could have had the best draft. Gio's going to be good. Sanchy good.
Biggest Reach: Brian Roberts (12th round). Played in 59 games in 2010. Doubt he stays healthy, a risk because MI is so shallow.
Question Mark: Ian Desmond and Brian Roberts up the middle? Will that come back to bite him?
4. Mark it down REPEAT (Kai)
Giants fan displaced in NY. Can't be fun. OF depth is very questionable. Would be the best team in the league if Lester pitches every night. Not gonna happen.
Best Pick: Jon Lester (4th round). Bonafide Ace. Stud.
Biggest Reach: Michael Young (6th round). Career decline could come at any time. Refuses to take a walk. Texas publicly trying to trade him. Never a good thing.
Question Mark: Can he tread water while Matt Holliday is recovering from an appendectomy? If not, he may have to trade one of his studs for more depth.
5. Go Home Zito (Evan)
Most hilarious draft I think I have ever seen. Drafted 3, THREE, players who won't play an inning in a big league game this year (Wainwright, Wagner, and Bryce Harper). Pitching staff would be nasty if Wainwright was healthy. But he's not.
Best Pick: Wainwright...Wagner...no Harper...nevermind. Cole Hamels (5th round). Why did he drop? Only 10 wins a year ago. But post all-star break stats? 2.23 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 104 K's in 96 innings. Ace material.
Biggest Reach: Pablo Sandoval (8th round). Could be his end up being his best pick. If he ever learns how to swing at strikes.
Question Mark: Whenever you throw away a 4th rounder, you have no chance. Right?
6. Rockstars from Mars (Doug)
Like the draft. I'm going to name it the best. Time will tell if his team is the best.
Best Pick: Trevor Cahill (14th round). Yes, I think the A's are going to be good this year. He's the new Chien-Ming Wang. Nothing wrong with that in the 14th round. Also like the Kinsler pick. Consensus 2nd rounder for the past several years, and now that he's 28, he's a mid 3rd rounder? Nice.
Biggest Reach: Ichiro (5th round). Seattle was awful a year ago. Ichiro "only" hit .315 last year. He'll decline at some point.
Question Mark: Relying on aging vets (Ichiro, V-Mart, Manny, Rolen, Uribe). And will Ellsbury stay healthy?
7. Raging...Right Now (Ryan)
Let me introduce you to a fantasy baseball term. Saves/Steals Aint Got No Face (SAGNOF). Why draft Crawford, Ichiro, Ellsbury when you can get Tabata who does the same thing? Same with elite closers and the Fernando Rodney/Ryan Madsons.
Best Pick: Mark Reynolds (11th round). 11th rounder in 2009, 2nd rounder in 2010, and 11th rounder in 2011? His value's somewhere in between. So 30 hrs in the 11th round? Average is a flukey stat.
Biggest Reach: Chris Young (5th round). I'm a sucker for potential 30-30 guys. Good thing strikeouts don't count against me.
Question Mark: Could be vulnerable early. Teixeira a notoriously slow starter and Grienke on the DL. Also has a young team. Love me some J-Upside.
8. bombers28 (Andrew)
Maybe his friend did a better job drafting for him. Scary top 4 guys. Hanson's also good. But the Grandyman and Gardner? Homer much?
Best Pick: Tommy Hanson (8th round) His K/9 dropped last year, but velocity didn't. Not too worried.
Biggest Reach: Brett Gardner (7th round). I won't touch the Granderson pick. He "misclicked". But a guy who might hit 9th in the 7th round?
Question Mark: Has a couple post-hype guys in Nolasco and Shields. Can they fulfill their potential?
9. Justin's Juicers (Justin)
Auto-picked team. Yawn.
Best Pick: Drew Stubbs (8th round). Actually a good value. Potential 20-20 guy, maybe 30-30 in the Not So Great American Ballpark.
Biggest Reach: Chase Utley (7th round). When does he come back? A month, two or three?
Question Mark: He has some work to do. None pitching.
10. Bi-Winning (Matt)
Very solid draft. Probably playoff bound if the season ends today. Lucky for others, it doesn't. Man, don't see any weaknesses.
Best Pick: Jason Heyward (4th round). Last time we'll see him go this late in a fantasy draft in a while. At least a 2nd round guy from here on out.
Biggest Reach: Martin Prado (8th round). Nitpicking. I dunno?
Question Mark: Pitching depth. Rounding out a staff w/ AL east guys is always risky.
11. Huff's Thong Drawer (Peter)
The Buster Dread Pirates. Might not have a bonafide ace. Haren's a first half guy and Latos had a huge innings spike last year.
Best Pick: Andrew McCutchen (3rd round). The Dread Pirate. How is that not his nickname? 30-30 guy. Write it in. 1st rounder next year. Write it in.
Biggest Reach: Matt Wieters (11th round). Not necessarily a reach, but more a huh pick. Buster in the 2nd round, then another catcher?
Question Mark: Cano, McCutchen, Posey, Dunn is scary. Haren, Latos, Sanchez, Colby Lewis is not.
12. NOBODY CARES!!!! (Mike)
He has two guys that were on my team that won a league (Wright and Hamilton). I got them in the 2nd and 4th round, respectively, last year. This year? They're 1st and 2nd rounders. Point being, you win with your picks in the latter rounds.
Best Pick: Craig Kimbrel (14th round). He's scary good. Marmol good. Going to get a lot of opportunities too. SAGNOF!
Biggest Reach: Billy Butler (7th round). Only contributes to 1 category (AVG). Not worth the value here.
Question Mark: Is Hamilton going to stay healthy? Pretty much assuming he is.
Good luck to everyone this year. I'll try to update this as much as possible to encourage people to stay active.
